This heart-warming, entertaining evening of words and music performed by world-renowned artists will take place Sun. Dec. 10, 3:30pm, at the Blaine Performing Arts Center, presented by the Pacific Arts Association. This exceptional ensemble features a stunning four harps, strings, flute, percussion and poetry, and includes a post-performance dessert reception with special, up-close harp demonstrations.
Harpist Jill Whitman is joined by her daughter, Emilie Whitman, along with Sarah McHugh and Katy Mullen on harps, bells and percussion. Completing this dynamic ensemble: accomplished flautist Kim Breilein (Boston Conservatory), violinists Grant Donnellan (MM, Yale; Concert Master, Whatcom Symphony) and Gaye Davis (Assoc. Concert Master, Whatcom Symphony), violist and published composer Elizabeth Stuen-Walker (MM, Yale; Master Suzuki Trainer), and cellist Chip Bergeron (Principal Cello, Whatcom Symphony and Chamber). The captivating Rosemary Scott Vohs, classically trained in her native England, entertains with enchanting poems and storytelling. Experience haunting melodies such as "Carol of the Bells" and "La Nanita Nana," as well as familiar carols like "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen," "I Wonder As I Wander," "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," performed as a harp solo by Emilie Whitman, a lively "Sleigh Ride," and the Nutcracker's "Waltz of the Flowers" cadenza performed with a dazzling four harps. A special treat will be local composer and arranger Barry Ulman's impressionistic rendition of "Greensleeves." Finally, a fiery flamenco will have audience members clapping and ready to leap to their feet with a resounding, "Ole!"
